Marion has been providing evidence to courts for over ten years.
She provides cognitive, individual and family psychological reports including assessment of personality, mental health, trauma, risk, cognitive capacity and abilities, and attachment.
Assessments include the use of neuropsychological and other psychometric tools, and the CARE Index parent/infant assessment tool.
Marion is also proficient at working with interpreters and can provide in depth psychological assessments for those involved in immigration.
Reports are provided of Individuals and couples within 6-8 weeks of Letter of Instruction, and are provided within Legal Aid rates and limits.

A Formulation Based Approach
A good place to start is by asking what's happened to you, instead of what's wrong with you. The patterns of behaviour we used as children to cope with difficulties sometimes become problematic as adults. By working with clients using a variety of psychotherapeutic approaches, it's possible to look at those patterns in a trauma informed way, and then to work on changing them. This helps to leave the past where it belongs and to focus on the present moment in order to look to a better future.

Marion Bates is a trained Clinical Psychologist. She has studied at the Universities of Nottingham (BA), London (BSc), Surrey (MSc Forensic Psychology) and she gained her Doctorate in Clinical Psychology from the University of Liverpool. She is an Associate Fellow of the British Psychological Society and a Registered Practitioner with the Health and Care Professions Council.
Marion is an Expert Witness in the Family and Criminal Courts, where she provides comprehensive evidence based assessments and opinion, and is a specialist in developmental trauma including abuse and neglect, dissociation, personality and attachment.
Marion is passionate about using trauma informed formulations to understand people's stories, and using integrative methods to help address them and to make changes.
She offers discrete models such as trauma focused EMDR and CBT and also incorporates other models into her approach - drawing on third wave approaches (DBT and CFT), the Structural Model of Dissociation, and CAT.
Marion also has a degree in Russian and has an understanding of the cultural backgrounds of clients from the Former Soviet Union.
Marion also works as a Consultant Clinical Psychologist in the NHS.

Where are you based?
I offer Expert Witness work in offices of solicitors and local authorities, or children centres to enable easier access for clients to be closer to their home.
I offer therapy in East London or online.
I offer Supervision sessions in East London close to underground and overground stations, or online.
What are your fees?
Expert Witness Family Court work is charged at Legal Aid Rates of £93.60 per hour and is within the hours stipulated by the LAA. Private law cases vary in cost. Please contact for more information.
Private Assessments are available on demand.
Therapy costs can vary but are generally charged at £120 per hour paid in advance.
Cancellations will be charged at the full rate if not received 72 hours before the session time.
Supervision is charged at £120 per hour.
Fees for training and team supervisions and consultations are available on demand but start at £800 per day.

I regularly attend training courses to keep up with my Continuing professional development.
I also attend my own clinical supervision.
